I took this picture on Sept 30th-2005 on the Queen of the North, an open sea ferry which sank March 22nd-2006 with 101 people on board. Everyone was rescued except for two people who are missing. The picture was taken from the bridge looking through the window which accounts for the scratch marks.
The ship has a colorful history including time as a floating casino way back in the day. If your interested on seeing more ship specs you can click: Queen of the North or here for the news release: Experts rule out mechanical failure in B.C. ferry sinking.

Update: April 14-2007 The official report blames the sinking on human error. The vessel remains under water and the two missing people were never found. Human error blamed for Queen of the North sinking

Wow... nice picture...the landscape is very amazing! I heard the news last evening at the tv... It's a great news for the 101 people of the boat, but for the 2 last missing people is very bad news... I hope than rescue them...

wow indeed. really great perspective. this is just a stellar shot. i was wondering about what was in the sky that looks like scratches, but i don't think it detracts from the picture too much.

This is a great picture. It is like when the sky meets earth. I am sorry to hear of the tragedy & pray everyone is safe. Excellent work.

That is an amazing shot. I think the scratches actually add to the feel. Almost like it is a place you can only see through a window. I need to go find that news story now..

I could tell that it was taken through a window when I first looked at it. The colors look great and the composition and framing really works well, but the scratch marks definitly detract form the image. I can show you how to go about removing them, but this image is pretty soft anyways. It is up to you. :-)
