I liked how the light played off of the hand made glass in the windows. The Alexander Majors House is one of surviving antebellum houses in the Kansas City area and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Majors built the house in 1856, on a 300-acre farm. It served as both a family home and headquarters for a successful freighting company.

Great shot of a wonderful antebellum home. This looks like a view of the back porch...very inviting. The history of these homes is so interesting!

Constance, yes this is the back porch. There was a side entrance across that wing that the family generally used, as well as a very small back porch which had a water well pump beside it (there is a pic of it in my gallery that I posted some time back, title is 'Water at the back door.') The front of the house had a porch in the center with matching balcony above it.

You're right, the windows are lovely. They look almost opalescent in the light. Are the panes white or are the shades drawn?

Shades are pulled, the house is a museum/tourist stop and was not open when I took this.

Perfect composition on this scene. The historical significance of these buildings is so interesting, glad to know they are maintained and viewed.

I googled the house and the photo of the Alexander Majors House
is different. That's why I thought it was the back.

Perfect, and from historical point of view a very interesting, entry for the current contest, Larry.
Good Luck with it, my friend!

Constance, that is the house, they just don't show this side of the house in that set of pics. I will try and make a collage of all four entrances and post it. It is a bit confusing to have three back porches as I refer to them, guess I could call this one the back side porch. ;)
