Brett, based on my own experience, a good captain will try to prevent that rats come onboard by instructing his crew to attach rat shields (vertical mounted circular plates) around the mooring ropes. It's rather time consuming but worth doing it. 'Time is money', is only relative. Thanks anyhow for this nice image.

This is a really great photo. I was going to comment on it earlyer but dident get a chance. I love the view looking up the rope. Beutiful big ship, even better photo.
