It's been awhile since I've submitted here...please leave comments and suggestions. This was originally taken for a cotton related photography contest, but I wasn't able to print it at the required size. Also, for some reason, when setting this as my background, I can't see the bottom of the border. I hope this isn't a problem for everyone, and if so, I'd greatly appreciate an explanation as to why it happens.

This image has something mysterious...it is dark and a bit frightening...the fiery red sunset is a perfect match. I really like it...

Very interesting capture... I like the contrast of the dark foreground against that red sunset. Nicely done...

This is potentially an excellent image. The focus is good and the composition is excellent. But you need to do some work on contrast. Bring out detail in the foreground elements using the dodge brush or even make a few "levels" adjustments. Use the eyedroppers on the levels histogram (in photoshop cs2) to select the whitest and blackest part of the image. The middle dropper can be used to select a central gray sample. This will automatically adapt the luminance range for your image...then you can adjust the gamma (middle slider) to bring out more detail. An alternative method would be to use the new highlight/shadow contrast adjustment tool...it's vey powerful.

as for the background question...I find that 1600x1200 images on a screen that size get the bottom clipped off by the windows info bar.

This is amazing! I really like how you captured the cotton plant, and the sunset (even though it is a bit blurry). 10/10 and into my faves. ^_^

"Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many."- "I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened..." "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide.
