The Liechtenstein garden palace in the Rossau (meaning ‘horse meadow’, today a part of Vienna’s 9th district) was built under Prince Johann Adam Andreas I of Liechtenstein (1657–1712). He was one of the greatest patrons of architecture in his time. Initially, it was Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach who was to design his garden palace. Later, the Prince chose the Bologna-trained Domenico Egidio Rossi. After his death, Rossi’s concept was taken up by the architect Domenico Martinelli from Lucca, who eventually finalized the idea of a mighty Roman palace. Together with the Belvedere gardens, the originally Baroque Liechtenstein gardens were the most impressive example of Baroque garden art in Vienna. With their sculptures by Giovanni Giuliani and their large variety of ornamental plantings, they constituted a self-contained horticultural cosmos that was reconfigured into a vast English-style landscape garden in the 19th century. And today I was there and took a couple of pictures for you. This was the very first one - Things like that stand there everywhere. I hope you enjoy.

Sounds like a very formal garden, I'm sure I would love to wander around there! This image is great, I like your perspective. The statue is very clear and the backdrop sets it off very well! Diane

Well, if it's Baroque, why don't they FIX IT!! HAH HAH!!

Sorry. I have these fits every once in a while. Once I get my straight-jacket on and get back in my cell I'll be okay. Hee hee. = - ]

This is a neat sculpture. I like how you got it in the sunlight, but not directly so you have some nice shadowing. The detail and sharpness is nice too. I feel like I could almost reach out and touch it. Very nice indeed. Great job!

Caiden.

P.S. If you have a chance, take a look at my gallery. Any comments, advice, or criticisms would be welcome. Have a great day!

Right now, I'm once again in the middle of a move that won't be completed for 2 weeks, once I get that done, I'll post again. I will still comment on yours. Keep smiling in the mean time. ;-) Steve

Stunning capture Sabine ! the overall light is great, from top to bottom.
You do have a very good lightmeter in your camera.
What is this sculpture for ? i am not sure, it seems it is missing something on top.
Maybe flowers ? or what was the top used for ? could be a fountain as well.
