The castle, built in 1278, controls the whole Saint Gallener valley. In the Middle Ages it served the Admont monastery as a place of refuge, which could never be taken. Unfortunately, not much is left of the former glory of the castle. However, after restoration some of its former beauty is still apparent. By the way: Gallenstein translated to English means .... gallstone

This is a lovely photo of both the castle and the fall colors. I see a small problem, though. It appears that you did "noise reduction" on this image -- the trees (especially at the top) are somewhat "smeared" so that their details have been lost. If this is what happened, I suggest that you copy and paste only the blue-sky portion of the image into a separate edit window, do noise reduction on it, then paste it back into the first window. That way, the trees will not be altered.

Sabine, this is such a nice one but i too see what greg is talking about. He has made the same suggestion for me on one of my images awhile back. I see the fall colors are happening there too. ♥:)sandi♥

Great shot Sabine. I like the angle and how the trees are starting to change. Looks like a painting. I must admit the only thing I know about noise is that it hurts my ears.

Wonderful story Sabine. Can't image why they've chosen in the past for this remarkable name. The image is wonderful too. Love the autumn leaves 'decoration' for the castle. Regards, Cornelius

Hmmm. Gallstone castle. The architecture is quite simple, but for its purpose, I guess there was no need for intricate design since it was functional. The setting is well chosen and the autumn colors really make this quite a fantastic scene.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes
