One of the first decent macros from my Canon SX50, taken this afternoon. Hope you'll enjoy. I tend to zoom, zoom, zoom with this camera rather than macro but... I love bugs and this guy I think is a knock-out. -Christie

Wow the colours in this bug are outstanding it hard to believe that a insect could have so many colours and the colours in the plant fit in with this bug superbly.Great detail and lovely layout too.

The catch-all term for these colorful leafhoppers seems to be sharpshooter. Apparently, while feeding on a plant, they process so much liquid that it comes out in a fine stream from the posterior end. Therefore that nickname. A different variety, the glassy-winged sharpshooter, seems to be a vector for quite a few plant diseases. So they're not entirely benign.

Your take here is colorful and very lovely. It gives context and scale to a world that most people never see directly. It really is a jungle down there.
