This is the European Rowan, Sorbus aucuparia, a small tree typically 4-12 m tall growing in a variety of habitats throughout northern Europe and in mountains in southern Europe and southwest Asia. It has nice red berries. It also happens to be my eldest daughter's middle name. The density of the rowan wood makes it very usable for walking sticks and magician's staves. Druid staffs, for example, have traditionally been made out of rowan wood.

The beer urges me on, the bewitching beer, which sets even a wise man to singing and to laughing gently and rouses him up to dance and brings forth words which were better unspoken. Homer, The Odyssey (note: beer substituted for wine)

Great story with the photo and a wonderful use of shortened DOF. Nice shot.

Nicely composed and framed. The berries show up well in contrast to the nice dof of pastel color.

Beautiful photo. Wasn't the rowan sacred to the Druids?
