Let's see . . . where to begin 1) Subject centered 2) Subject Slightly out of focus 3) Camera was tilted slightly clockwise (image is counter clockwise) 4) Part of the subject was cut off 5) foliage obstructing the camera 6) Eyes are not in focus (big NO!)

hmm doesn't seem to have broken the rule enough.. it broke a lot of them..but in a small way plus i dont clearly see the foliage 'obstructing' the camera.. but simply as a photo this is fantastic 9/10

Breaking the rules seems to work well for you. You've named this shot well. It's in my faves.

Gotta agree with David & Pat, I ,too, like this , maybe because of all your broken rules. Love the image, love the colors, I really like everything. Good luck in the contest.

I really like this shot, but I'm going to argue with you on the broken rules...

1) The visual attention of the subject is focussed on the head / eyes that is almost at the exact intersection of a classic "thirds" spot in the composition. 2) I can agree the subject is *very* slightly out of focus, but you have to really think about it to notice and it's never distracting in any way... 3) The camera may be tilted but there's no sign of it in the image (no horizon far away in the background to compare it with). In fact if you hadn't it would probably have looked really crooked as you with this angle makes the stonewall to the right in the image stand straight up vertically, 90° from the horizontal plane in the foreground. 4) The subject is not cropped by the camera but is naturally framed with the clever use of the environmental settings at hand. 5) Sure there is foliage in the image but they don't obstruct anything of interest in the image, the line of sight is undisturbed in the parts where it count's the most. If anything it may add to the sense of depth in the image. 6) The eyes are not more noticeable out of focus then the rest of the animal and that was like I said above hardly disturbing to begin with. ^_^

Ok, don't hang me for this critique... It all boils down to that I really like this shot. I did the comment entirely with my tongue in my cheek (you say it like that, right?) I'm do hope you noticed... ^_^ I have one small thing to add on a point I'm usually noticing: It's a bit too bright in the highlights with burnt out textures. This is only a *really* minor issue though. I just say it anyway, since I have the habit of saying what I think if I have anything useful to add. (Now you may argue, and quite rightly so, how *useful* that comment really is though... :P) I do realise that parts of the image would probably (/ possibly?) have been too dark if exposed a stop or so below what you did here...

i have to agree that infact apart from the slight softness in the picture (which is actually pleasant and adds to the relaxed air of confidence obviously possessed the magnificent creature) compositionally this is a great photo

the eyes have it !

theres a great story here, the tiger is standing guard in the entrance of its lair

as for tilt
there are walls and floors pointing in any which way some titled one way others the reverse theres no obvious horizon what so ever so the average of the verticals/horizontals is more than fine

the out of focus foreground simply adds distance and depth to the picture

cant say that youve actually broken even that one focus rule too badly either

soz but its a well crafted photo ;)
and i like it

maybe you should look back at some of your throwaway photos ... they might have actually been great too ... just you thought youd broken some rules which you in reality hadnt !!!! HEHE

Well, I'm going to agree with you David. It's a good strong image with good strong colors but the blur and dof are both out of wack enough to bother me somewhat if I were to be critiquing this from a different standpoint. I would not have wanted the leaves obstructing the view either. Still, it's nearly painterly and commands a respectful look. So, good luck.

I think this picture is very cool. It has depth to it that over rides any "breaking" of the rules. Sometimes we don't look at the real beauty of a picture because we are focused to much on the rules. Don't be. Find the inspired feeling that comes from this great picture. It is moving and powerful.

I agree that this is a little out of focus but everything else is just great. Nice photo. I love the lighting - the way that his face is in the light and the back end of him is covered in shadow.

When I got tired of running from you I stopped right there to catch my breath There your words they caught my ears You said, “I miss you son. Come home” And my sins, they watched me leave And in my heart I so believed The love you felt for me was mine The love I’d wished for all this time And when the doors were closed I heard no I told so’s I said the words I knew you knew Oh God, Oh God I needed you God all this time I needed you, I needed you. -Relient K

Remember, I will still be here, As long as you hold me, in your memory Remember, when your dreams have ended, Time can be transcended, Just remember me I am the one star that keeps burning, so brightly, It is the last light, to fade into the rising sun I'm with you, Whenever you tell, My story, For I am all I've done Remember, I will still be here, As long as you hold me, in your memory, Remember me I am that one voice, in the cold wind, That whispers, And if you listen, you'll hear me call across the sky As long as, I still can reach out, and touch you, Then I will never die Remember, I'll never leave you, If you will only, Remember me Remember me... Remember, I will still be here, As long as you hold me, In your memory Remember, When your dreams have ended, Time can be transcended, I live forever, Remember me Remember me, Remember... me...
