A collision of two galaxies has left a merged star system with an unusual appearance as well as bizarre internal motions. Messier 64 (M64) has a spectacular dark band of absorbing dust in front of the galaxy's bright nucleus, giving rise to its nicknames of the "Black Eye" or "Evil Eye" galaxy. I don't know why, but this picture definitely does have a creepy aura to it. That light coming out of the middle is rather eery in appearance and reminds me of the use of lights in ghost movies, though this is obviously on a FAR larger scale. Very good looking.

I agree. The light looks eery due to the black band around it. Normally a galaxy like this would look very peaceful and inspiring.

Nice! Not so much for the picture quality but for what it is. Incredible!

That's the problem with most Galaxy images, they tend to have a lot of noise, but there isn't much you can do to improve it without blurring the galaxies themselves.

If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what happens if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?

WOW, thought provoking image. Amazing to think there are millions of stars in there, but beacuse they are so sparse they very rarely actually colide, if at all!

That just gor my mind thinking about the vastness and size of space. *Many hours later a dribbling mass on the floor can be seen babbling about lightyears and billionmetres*
