One of my very own astronomy images. The Moon taken using afocal photography on a XT10 10" telescope with 25mm EP (48x) and no filters. This is my first try, so be gentle!

Not bad for a first try at eyepiece projection. Excellent detail at the terminator, but the illuminated limb is about 2 stops over.

Assuming that your 10-incher is operating at f/5.6, I would start with a base exposure at ISO 100 of 1/500 and bracket a stop on either side.

Don't worry about shadow detail. The moon has no atmosphere so there is almost no shadow detail, anyway, but there is a lot of detail that you can get in the moons "seas".

I only wish my first astrophoto came out this well.
