I do find it odd though, that I wont see a new upload show up in the new gallery for maybe 3-4hours, but it's getting views & comments before then? Maybe I have something set wrong (cache dump, etc.) in my browser.

Usually you can view an image if you're a "friend" of someone before it goes to the main gallery but I don't know if that's what's happened here either way that's my explanation:)
