This is supposed to look real. It's aframe from a Visual FX shot I did just as a learning exercise. It's completely digital. I got the plane model from Renderosity, it's by Kei_O (many thanx) I created the storm in Vue 7.5 Extreme.

Absolutely looks real. You couldn't get a better shot from a trailer aircraft. Very nice.

I love the storm clouds. The angle of the plane is excellent too. Very realistic! Nice work.

Nice job. It could be a great reminder of flight 447.

Nicely done, Peter. :o)

Pleasure to see your work ... as always.

If I may be so bold, might have been tempted to digitally paint in some very faint contrails, emerging from just below the wings/engines themselves.(To suggest some turbulence, perhaps, as well?)

Remarkably well-matched, the two images ... that of the storm and plane ... although, seems a tad static? As presented to us? And therein, lies my one minor and lone caveat.

That nonsense of mine aside, I really enjoy this piece. Reminds me of a fav album/disk's front cover/artwork of Mike Oldfields'. That of "Five Miles Out".

/\ Image linked to above, is a bad scan. Still, the mood and feel is very reminiscent to my mind and eyes to that of your visual presentation here.

Thanks for sharing this one with us. I like it a lot. :o)

+favs for me.

purmusic, you missed the second thing I left out, the heat signature trail from the engines which blur the clouds behind a bit. I left out the contrails because I don't know how to animate them realistically, but I simply forgot the heat sig. It's all a big learning curve.

Oh, and of course it's static, It's one frame from over 300

One last note. This is not a composite shot. It is a straight render with NO Photoshop work at all. The final images were rendered in Vue 7 Extreme's internal render engine.

"It's all a big learning curve."

/\ True say, Peter ... for me, too.

And an oversight on my part, with respect to the origins of your piece here. 'Static' issue ... now resolved. :o)

And 'heat signature', aside from the aforementioned and suggestion of inclusion of contrails, was the phrasing and terminology I was searching for, but ... could not find in my current caffeine-depleted state.

/\ Just kidding around a bit there, albeit there is some truth behind my words ...

(*goes off to pour a good good cup of joe, with real cream of course ...*)

Hey there Peter! Long time since you've been here. Have missed your creations very much. And reality is it here! I would never have known it was created by you...but then, I don't know much about planes. But I DO know about clouds..and that is just gorgeous. It really looks as if you are in a plane behind this one, taking photos..wonderfully done my friend. Verena

Sometimes renders look better than the real thing, this is one such case.
