The lake, which is the fourth of Latium volcanic basin by extension, is, albeit slightly as deep ever. With its 170 meters depth is on top of of the list in fact before that of Lake of Bracciano. Also known as Lake of Castel Gandolfo, the largest of lakes of the Alban Hills, is originated from the two volcanic craters as evidenced by its elliptical shape. Located at 293 meters s.l.m. is about 3.5 km and 2.3 km covers an area of approximately 6 kmq But more than for its size, is famous for its beauty and that of the countries that surrounds it, famous names in the world and much etched in Roman culture: Castel Gandolfo, which is reflected in the waters of the lake, and a little farther north Marino and South Albano that gives the name, Ariccia, Genzano and immediately after the other lake, Nemi, in the east the ruins of Alba Longa, the ancient and bitter enemy of Rome. Fed by springs diving, has an artificial emissary of the Roman period, excavated at Castel Gandolfo in the 398 a.C. Comments are welcome.

Such beauty, Ed. Looks like you have captured at least half the lake and from a really fine vantage point too.

It looks like the Colosseum lined by trees and filled with water Ed. Just beautiful. The colors are perfect. I suspect the water is very cold and clear. Great post.

I knew I'd seen the name Castel Gandolfo before... and looking it up, I see it has associations with some Popes. Beautiful lake, looks like quite a bit of it is unoccupied, and I bet that road ends just partway around the perimeter.
