The first settlements in the SEGNI territory date back to the Bronze Age, but the settlement has developed only in Roman times, a time when SEGNI was strategically located on the valley of the Sacco river. In the sixth century BC Tarquinius Superbus, King of Rome, sent to SEGNI of the settlers and army garrison to protect, by land routes into the city of Rome. This is proven by numerous archaeological remains found in the district. But SEGNI from the beginning, was a separate city-state until 340 BC when it signed a pact with the Romans, who soon raised it to City Hall (89 BC) and the frigate's initials SPQS (Senatus Populusque Signinus) so enjoying relative independence but obligations of alliance with Rome itself. In fact in 493 BC Segnini people signed along with the other populations the Foedus Cassianum, alliance concluded between the Latin cities and Rome. Today Segni is gorgeous place to spend some time in relaxing and admiring its panoramas and simple cuisine. Most valuable and high quality worldwide Chestnuts come from this place. Personalities from SEGNI: Pope Vitaliano, Pope Innocent III, Giulio Andreotti (former Italian Premier), Card. Pericle Felici, Pope Alexander IV. Enjoy

Ed - A beautiful view across the valley. I like the tall stone wall on the left, with the buildings tiered on the hillside leading down to the valley, then across to the still snow-capped mountains. Very nice! Thad
