Intersting and disturbing at the same time. First impressions made me think it was a tribal figure of some kind, with clay paint on the face. I bet the statue has the angel looking angelic in the fuller form, but zoomed this close, and with the texture and depth, and face made up with bird droppings, it's downright haunting. This is a reallly unique pic, and well captured. If you'd zoomed in a bit more or less it wouldn't have the effect. Color would have ruined it too. Really nice, in my humble opinion!
thank you! this is actually one of the most famous pieces of gravesite art in this cemetery. It is the angel of death, and I wish I could post more than one picture per day, because I have a ton of other pictures that show this angel in much more detail. It has been around since the early 30's, and it was once a shiny copper color. Over the years the oxygen counteracted with the copper and stained the entire statue into a greenish color, much like the statue of liberty. The effect it had on its face makes it look like tears, and the rest of it's body is just amazing. If you think the face is haunting, you should see the rest of it. I will post more pictures once I am able to.
Hey, thanks for commenting on Pale Pink! I appreciate it. I like this photo...it's right up in your face and isn't shy about any emotion. Kiiindof creepy how the left eye really does seem to be looking at ya! Great job with this. Keep it up!

It's the deterioration that has such a strong and unsettling effect. It has a dragging down by time look. I'm sure from a distance it is obviously an angel but from just the detail of the worn and haggard face the possibilities for interpretation are much greater. Great photo
Great idea this scary image!
But it might need some adjustements to enhance the effect. Try this: adjust the highlight/midtones/shadows to -100/-100/+100. The image will have a complete contrast, enhancing the effect.
