it's a nice subject, but the background and lighting needs work. also, try to make the focus sharper. keep trying!

I think flowers are just fine if centered in the frame, and this is a beautiful subject. However, it looks as though you used flash lighting (judging from the shadow to the left), and that's very difficult to control. I'd like to see you try more shots of this orchid, using available light and playing with the focus to try to get it very sharp, while letting the remainder of the plant go out of focus. As it is now, the sharpest focus seems to be just behind the main bloom.
