Or what is left of a tree stump after it has been left out too long in the inclement weather. This is why you should always bring your things inside after you are done playing with them. At one point it was probably a perfectly good stump to sit and ponder upon. I imagine many a squirrel has hatched mischievous plans while scampering upon it. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a nut or two buried within, because there was certainly one taking photos of it. Now if you were to sit on it you would only hasten its demise. So instead you sit on the mossy ground and realize too late that squirrels aren't the only critters that love stumps. You forgot about the ants that now are steadily marching up your legs.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Nicely spotted and well-captured.

Great use of the negative space of the shadowed background in relation to and on the note of how you composed the elements within frame.

And it goes without saying..

But, of course.. thanks for sharing this one with us, Wendell.

You have made a good photo of something most photographers just walk past with out seeing the possibilities Wendell. Good lighting and details.

Better to leave this stump as is Wendell - it has provided a new habitat and environment to the ecology in the woods - great use of lighting brought out the textures - Nice Capture!!!!!!!
