Come, my friends,
'tis not too late to seek a new world. Push off, and sitting well in order smite the sounding furrows; for my purpose holds to sail beyond the sunset, and the baths of all western stars, Until I die.
Tennyson, "Ulysses"
I was asked to write a comment on this picture. Here's a layman's honest opinion down below.
The scene is a that of a lush garden in Portland. A speck of a road and a glimpse of the city are included in the frame. The first impression of the picture is certainly a pleasant one. Now for the details.
The framing is good: most of the space is taken by the garden trees in keeping with the subject and the photographer's purpose. Although the sky fills a rather large part of the pic, the colour is not ideal. This is compensated by the very pleasing colourful garden, to a large extent. The clarity is adequate but I'd suggest it could be better.
The addition of the tiny views of the road and city has had a very good effect on the photo: while stressing the garden, the photographer attracts your attention to the urban life reminding us that we can , and SHOULD, have a lot of green in our industrialized urban life. As if saying: "Look! It should be more green and less concrete and cement!". It's a subtle, yet powerful message.
Overall, I think this is a wonderful shot! I'd give it two green lights and an amber one.
I pretty much agree with what 'Rokh' said... he covered all bases. I love the many textures and shades of green in the garden, counterbalanced by the glimpse of road and the city beyond. it definitely carries a quiet message to the viewer. The one 'Achilles heel' is of course the washed out sky. I don't have access to anything like Photo Shop so I'm not sure how that could be reworked. Anyway, great shot!
