The constrution of the Oporto Crystal Palace began in 1861 an the works are finished in 1865, the Crystal Palace was an work of the english architect Thomas Jones Dillen and as built in granite, iron and glass, and had the Crystal Palace of London as model. In 1933, the building and its gardens have been acquired by the Port City Hall, a in 1951 during dictatorship the politicians do what they want without consulting the population was committed the biggest crime ever against the portuguese heritage, the Crystal Palace was demolished and they build this that you see on the photo. A giant dome of concrete that they called Palace of Sports, this is an arena for every type of indoor sports now also used for music concerts and exhibitions and one of the exuses for his constrution was the organization of the world championship of the Roller Hockey. Nowdays the name was changes to Arena Rosa Mota in homage to the athlete born in Oporto and that was the first portuguese woman to win a gold medal on the Olympic Games and only to win the Olympic marathon, but the name (and the gardens) of Crystal Palace survive till now and every body nows this place as Crystal Palace.

It looks so much like modern architecture, can almost not believe, that it is that old. Very good capture and for me this is very interesting too.
