I think the cat's paw is a little distracting in the foreground you might try cropping it out. It has a tendancy to attract your attention away from the central subject. I like the cats posture and overall demeanor. You seemed to have captured the mischevious attitude and cunning common to all cats. As for your decision to focus on one eye instead of the cats face, I am not sure. Sometimes as a photographer you have to rely on instinct. As photographers I am not allways sure that our intentions translate into the image we intend, but without experimentation we never grow as artists. Overall I have to say I have enjoyed this image.
Hi Stephen,
I think your idea to focus on one eye was good. That eye needs to be super sharp to make the most of your choice. I think if the eye and the head are about one third to one half of the total size of the image then a tighter crop might not be necessary, but the blurred paw in the foreground immediately under your main focus point is a bit distracting. I liked the blurred body fading away in the background. You have captured some cat personality with your shot.
Mikel.
The idea to focus the eye was a great idea and you did it pretty good. I have to agree that the paw takes away some attention from the face and is a tad distracting. Other than that, its a great shot and keep on experimenting.
