Hehehe...ok maybe it's not the coolest bridge in the world. But the coolest bridge that's 5 houses away from me.
Comments/suggestions demanded as usual.
i like how out of place it seems to be.. looks like it is in the middle of a farmers field and then here is this archetucture amazement... great picture
"A piece of toast with butter always lands butter side down, and a cat always lands on its feet. What happens if a piece of toast is tied butter side down to the back of a cat? Does it perpetually hover above the ground in indecision when dropped?"
Nice guess, but it's not in North Carolina. :) This is the Natchez Trace Bridge which is about 5 miles or so from Franklin, Tennessee, about 45 minutes outside of Nashville. It was constructed in 1996, so I was able to see them build it, which was pretty cool :). It marks the end of the Natchez Trace, which is a scenic parkway starting in Natchez Mississippi. If you want more info, look it up on the National Parks website and they should have a page about it or ask me--it's one of my favorite places :)
That's a neat-o bridge. Cool shot, too. Must have been a bit dark when you shot it eh? I would have guess the bridge somewhere in Europe - except for the warning sign down at the bottom.
Hi Flurije. I rode the Natchez Trace on my bike back in '87, and it was an uplifting experience. I loved the dark natural parts of it. I'm a bit surprised to see such a modern structure there. In fact I'm surprised to see a modern structure anywhere in the United States. Most of the stuff in the states is pretty dull - too conservative. This is quite beautiful, though, and reminds me of something I saw in Europe.
What a dramatic statement this image makes. The "untouched" sereneness of the color-rich background excenuates the display of modernization in the bridge.
I love a good bridge and I would say this surpasses my previously thought 'coolest bridge' which is on the 805 freeway in La Jolla, California. Great design and surroundings.
Hey Flurije - We drove part of the trace on our "Savanna Studio" trip for Landscape Architecture; I wish we could've seen this part of it. It certainly says something about our ideals and 'control' of the landscape, as you know this is a very maintained and controlled driving experience - especially in terms of viewsheds and open/enclosed spaces. Beautiful shot, though. 10/10 and on my desktop :) Thanks, Dj.
