It is as Sandi said a hornet's nest. I can see one at the bottom of the nest. Good capture Gigi.

If Sandi and Raj are right (and why not?) think that you have to be glad, Gisele, that this image was taken a few years ago, lol. Have to conclude as well that you're a lucky person, because it seems that you wasn't stung by them later.

The thing that goes the farthest, towards making life worthwhile, it costs the least and does the most, is just a pleasant smile.
As above a hornets nest or a flower head that been it by frost but more like hornet nest. nice capture and very good detail in this photo.

People are like cameras--sometimes they lose focus.
Almost looks like a pinecone, but it's not on a pine, so I don't know what it is. Nice shot though.

This is a nest made by a insect to lay its eggs. It wraps the leaf into a ball shape and seals the eggs inside to hatch. An interesting find and closeup Gigi. Good details and colours in the photo.
