This is a Cypress knee, a structure that emanates around the base of Cypress trees where their function is up to debate, but more than likely it's purpose is for support. Usually, the knee's grow to a rounded point but now and then you get alternate forms such as this. Taken at Lettuce Lake Park Dec 2004.

Looks like the sign they use in Hawaii, it's really a unique find and capture Alex. Also comes to mind it looks like a large head of a snail, lol.
