Before sealing the archives, I thought I would put up one more of the old photos I had scanned in awhile back. So, all I know about this one is, my grandfather who's photo I have submitted here a couple times is the 3rd from the left in the back row. He's the only one showing a bit of emotion. His brother's along with my Great Grandfather and mother both seated front, look very German in their demeanor. This is on my mother's side. I have some similar photo's of my father's side and they really look like they mean business! I would say this photo is from the early 1900's or very late 1800's.

Very good clarity here for a photo that old even if it has been edited.

Excellent B&W family portrait of days long gone by, Alex.
The quality of this portrait is amazing.
Because the photo isn't damaged, it may be that the photo hasn't been viewed very often. It's also possible that this photo has always been treated with care, because of its unique character. Hope that the latter is the case.
Thanks for providing us with this unique time document.

While she and her siblings were growing up, my wife's family had their family photos in this same manner, from tallest to shortest. Actually they initially lined up by age and it was still tallest to shortest until their individual growth spurts began changing the alignment. Back then they called this arrangement "The Steps"

From their expressions I'm guessing your great-grandmother is thinking:
"'l'll have you know I make the best apple strudel in the county!",

and your great-grandfather is thinking:
"Seriously? You want to take another photo? Twenty-eight exposures isn't enough?".

In the back, left to right, the minds are swirling in different directions:
-"Uh-oh... my drawers are riding up again."
--"I won. I get to stand behind dad. He likes me best, anyway."
---"I wonder if the stickum I put in Edmund's drawers are making them ride up again. That's soooo funny!"
----"Okay, I've decided. This is it. I'm telling mom and dad tonight that I'm not going into the family business when I graduate. I'm going to North Carolina to work for the Wrights, building bicycles."
-----"Uhmmmmm... did I remember to throw quicklime down the three-holer?"
------"Ha, ha, ha, you and me,
Little brown jug, don't I love thee!
Ha, ha, ha, you and me,
Little brown jug, don't I love thee!
'Tis you that makes me friends and foes,
'Tis you that makes me wear old clothes;
But, seeing you're so near my nose,
Tip her up and down she goes.
Ha, ha, ha, you and me,
Little brown jug, don't I love thee!"
