These birds can grow quite large and somewhat intimidating. Usually, in non-urban settings, I see these birds standing along side fisherman waiting for a treat. They can stand 4 - 5.5 feet tall and can eat anything from fish to small mammals. Basically anything they can cram down their throats. Taken at Lettuce Lake February, 2018.

We see these come to our little lake occasionally and they are most impressive at getting the fish out as soon as they swim by. A nice capture Alex.

Herons are relatively large birds, Alex, but mostly they're shy too.
I've captured some of them, but when I did an attempt (by offering them a treat) in order to achieve a closer approach, their 'reward' was a 'take off'.
