This butterfly looks very similar to a Monarch. May be in the same family, not sure. Taken at Lettuce Lake September 2016.

A very fine and just in time taken capture, Alex, because the Viceroy had just started its 'take off' procedure (because it already has retracted its proboscis) to go to the next flower for gathering nectar, ☺ .

I used to enjoy taking pictures of small wildlife, but I don't see much of it in a big city.

It does bear a striking resemblance to the Monarch...great shot of this Viceroy, Alex, and I'm glad it didn't turn out to be a cigarette, lol...there used to be a brand by that name:)
