This was taken in March 2014. I took my then recent girlfriend down to power plant 15 miles south of here to see the manatees and wanted to give her the true Florida experience. We drove down to Myakka State park about 80 miles south of here. A matter a fact, this photo the same day as my recent submission standing on the observation tower at Myakka. I choose this place because it's a very large park and it has a lot of different wildlife. And if you want to see large alligators in their natural environment this is where to go aside from the Everglades. Most of the gators there do not swim away and are not as "docile" as the ones where we live. Many of them have chips on their shoulders and will chase you down. I have actually seen Alpha males larger than this guy there. The cool thing about Myakka and places like it, is there are multiple territory's set up throughout the park much like kingdoms where each gator rules its turf. We have that here, but it's wildly distributed and you don't notice as much.
Thanks for both an amazing image and a very interesting narrative!
