Everyone who clibs this high "has to" make one small rock formation. Legend says that natives used these as signs and orients for moving through these giant mountains!!!
I love it because this time the focus is all on the rock formation. The mountains are only in the background. The winding river down the valley shows how far is the ground. Very nice composition.
Thank you for sharing this gorgeous photo with us.. and have a nice day! :)
A nice composition. Unfortunately, the background is out of focus. Though it seems so interesting! You should take it with f8 or f11 (if you cam accepts semi-automatic adjustments), so all the image will be focused. What do you think? :-)
I took that image with accent on that rock formation :) If you noticed in my gallery, there is already one photo of that landscape, so i thought it would be nice to point out something new for instance ;) But thanks for advice
I've been a member for several months and this is my first post. I am actually posting because this is one of the best pictures I have ever seen. It will adorn my desktop for several months. Absolutely fantastic job! :-)
Gothic,
Very clear and well balanced shot, focus on the valley as well as the stones. I like this because I have seen these markers from the native people from Minnesota all the way up into central Canada. Ancient road signs. Very interesting subject! Thank you for sharing it with us. Paul W, Brainerd MN, ~Ouimon~
Beautiful photo! These are still used as signs (to mark a trail or to indicate a change in direction of a trail) generally for hiking above treeline - they're known as cairns, and can be found all over the White Mountains in New Hampshire, as well as in other high altitude areas.
They are (or were) also sometimes built in a certain spot to serve as a memorial for someone who was unfortunate enough to "expire" there...
Where exactly was this taken?? I love it!
Well the rocks sure are in focus but is that the main thing, really? My eyes want to see the background focused. It looks beautiful. You had the right idea in choosing this scene. It just needs to be executed differently next time.

Great picture, yes, those stone mans you see a lot in mountainous terrain, Switzerland, Nepal just to name two.
Thanks for this fine posting of the start of the river Rhone and Furka pass road.
