On Ellis Beach near Cairns these little fellows were not afraid of giants. As soon as I started to come nearer with my camera they were ready to battle me til death. Thank god nobody was hurt!

i love the green colour they are and the translucency (is that a word and did i spell it right?) are they poisonous?

They are GREEN TREE ANTS. Not poisonous but it might hurt when they put their acid in a wound.

Ants are tough, able to lift many times their own body weight, their bite is loaded with toxins, some worse than others, and so they're some of the most fearless critters on the plant. Some evolutionary scientists have speculated that if humans hadn't become the predominant life form on earth, it would likely have been the ants.
