I like this, the black and white really adds a level of elegance and class to this beautiful instrument.
One lil qualm, tho.... I can see where the smokey background (which is beautiful) was cut and pasted, specificaly near the upper right and far left... Using the smear or blur tool in Photoshop should take care of this.
But it truly is a great image! I would love to put it on my favs!
Rachel, I really like this, very nice composition, exposure and contrast. I think you got the framing (cropping?) on this just right...the relationship between the hands and the flute is very expressive. I can almost hear the music. And b/w is the correct medium, color would not be as effective.
Ahh the flute, its such a lovely capture of the instrument. And I agree with everyone above about the Black and White effect, very nice. Good title by the way ^_^

interesting picture. i was excited to see a picture of a flute on the first page (for now, at least) of the music category! what song was she playing? i'm assuming she plays classical, because she's using an alternate fingering for fast passages between f and f#.
a very elegant photo.. im a fan of B&W photography, as well as a musician, so this really stands out to me.. love the angle of the shot and the lighting.. great job Rachel.. 10 and into my favs..
Somehow this one got by me, The lighting is really hot and perfect for black and white, it seems like you were planning to go there before you took the shot. Wonderfully done and a great addition to the music gallery.

Excellent photo! By focusing on the hands, you've created a unique picture that any flutist will fall in love with. Great job - more than a 10 in my book.
Excellent. Being a music teacher, this is my favorite shot of yours. Definitely a 10. the Black/White and clarity are wonderful. Excellent balence and composition too. Seeing this picture has inspired me. I need to try to get some musical shots.
As a Flute and guitar player I'm torn between skilled fingers and play the blues. The flute was my first love so I'd like that great photo for my desktop. How do I download it; I musst have missed something.
