This is a shot of Bath's very famous Pultney Bridge of which you will find two or three images of in my gallery however this is the alternative view of the back of it that people dont often go in search of. Although the houses on the left seem to be tilting a little i have tried changing the angles and only succeeded in making the bridge tilt instead! Optical illusion possibly?! Comments and critiques always warmly receieved :)

I like the moodiness of this shot..obviously a drab day, looking at the sky!..the monotones work well with the subject!

A place I have yet to visit...hopefully, soon!

Rachel, I like to agree with Bob about the washed out sky. Its disturbes the balance of your fine B&W composition to a certain extent.

If you are using PhotoShop, I like to give you this (perhaps already known) advice for possibly using it a next time:
Click on 'Filter', than select 'Distort' and than 'Lens Correction. At the right side of your image a new window appears. Adjust the 'Transform/Vertical Perspective' slider to the desired position, and you will see that the vertical tilt has gone.

Regards, Cornelius.

Hi, Rachel....

I agree with Cornelius. However I'm don't use PhotoShop; so I have my suggestions which probably correlate well with the PhotoShopese that Cornelius speaks fluently.

First of all, I probably would have dropped in a different sky. White skies...whether the shot is color or black and white...have always bothered me. In your posting the white sky has actually burned out some of the small leaves on the right.

Here's what I did. I downloaded your shot. Then I ran it through ShiftN, a free download that straightens lines that should be parallel and/or perpendicular. Because wide angle lenses cause a distortion, ShiftN fixes those. However as you saw with an earlier posting, ShiftN can also create havoc.

This is the result after using ShiftN. I also added some sharpening, contrast and a half click of negative gamma. Finally I thought that I spied some noise in the reflection and did a bit of noise reduction in that area.

Your image is really excellent. Once again, I like to putter and can't leave well enough alone. In this instance I think there's some improvement. Let me know what you think.

A nice capture of the backside of the bridge, Rachel. I like the b/w presentation of the scene. I can't add more advice outside of what has already been offered.
