I like the fact that you are using your imagination here and that you are experimenting with different techniques. The focal point, in my mind, should be the berries in front.
The human eye wants to go to the largest area of color first and then roam the rest of the image. By them being out of focus the eye looses interest and wants to move on to another image.
Try taking the same image with the largest group of berries in focus and leave the background way out of focus and see what you come up with.
It has been my experience that the entire image does not need to be in focus; sometimes it actually detracts from the images statement. In other words less is better.
Keep experimenting; it's an excellent way to learn.
With this technique I feel we are spying on someones house as my eye goes straight to the window. I prefer the method that Mike has mentioned for this image. Based on different subjects this technique could work very well and be quite dramatic. So, don't toss the technique for the critique on this image;-)
