When I first view these images in the voting booth, I usually only see the central 80% or so of the shot, and when I looked at this one, the center of the flower was the most prominent object on the screen. Then I scrolled around to see the rest. I was thinking that you did such a great job getting the fibrous stamen so clear that the petals, slightly out of focus (macros are very difficult to master), took some of the thunder away from the image. You should try cropping about 25% - 30% off the outside edges to see what a powerful image you have there hidden inside the image you submitted.
My very favorite kind of macro -- the kind that makes me feel I'm inside the flower! The play of light and shadow is outstanding. The color is radiant. I don't think the soft edges of the picture detract, although it would be interesting to see the result if you did the suggested cropping.
Reminds me of a drink recipe I created! Want it? { I'll pretend you said yes: I call it MADMAVEN'S MANGO MADNESS / Cruzan mango rum 4 ounces, MANGO INFUSION, sold in cans, 1 ounce sweetened lemon juice},1 cup orange juice,{ 2 cans} 1 teaspoon orange bitters, 2 cups crushed ice, blend...and voila'. Good stuff....{ no driving....and Madmaven is NOT responsible for anything strange that you do under the influence...:)
