Red-tailed Hawk (Family Accipitridae, Buteo jamaicensis) The red-tailed hawk is one of the most common hawks in North America. They can be seen along highways, often perched on telephone poles. They are 1.5 feet tall and have a wingspan 4 feet wide. Their white bellies, sometimes with a dark belly-band, and brick red tails make them easy for anyone to identify. The females are typically 1/3 larger than the male.

Excellent closeup of this magnificent bird Randy. The detail on the feathers is perfection and the colors are wonderful. Very well done. I'm really enjoying your bird posts. Thanks.

After a bit of an absence, partly vacation but mostly tax season...busy for bookkeeping businesses... I'm glad to be back out here with at least 'some' regularity. I've missed everyone and am glad to have a little more time again.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

You're really getting some fantastic shots of these birds, Randy. I love being able to see them this close..something I'd never have been able to do before, unless I was ready to fork over a lot of dough for a classy bird book...even then I'm not sure the same attention to detail would be observed.
