The Red-winged Blackbird, Agelaius phoeniceus, is a passerine bird of the family Icteridae found in most of North and much of Central America. It breeds from Alaska and Newfoundland south to Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico and Guatemala, with isolated populations in western El Salvador, northwestern Honduras and northwestern Costa Rica. It may winter as far north as Pennsylvania and British Columbia, but northern populations are generally migratory, moving south to Mexico and the southern United States.

Spectacular shot. On the thumbnail I did not care for the bright border but on seeing it full size it really works - an expert touch.

now how on earth are we supposed to say that? stop showing off with your fluent latin R! lol! fantastic capture of this bird! - I can even see your reflection in his eye! I might have been inclined to crop the photograph so we could see him a litter closer.

These are some of my fav blackbrds. They are so beautiful. You don't see them much here, except around water. I love the framework. It really brings out the wing marks.

I'd know this guy anywhere. He always looks like he's wearing shoulder pads. They like to cling to those vertical branches too. Nice job and the framing is super too.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Very nice shot. There was one in my backyard the other day but it flew away before I could get a shot of it.

Ooops did a double here for some reason...I think a black frame border might have been a bit more elegant tho...me not particularly like the red....it takes over and away from mr blackbird...V
