They do indeed appear to be sharing a joke and probably an off-color one at that given one is whispering to the other, lol...wonderful capture and lighting.
Perhaps the one owl is whispering nice thoughts in the others ear or it could be giving a gentle kiss while the other who is blushing with joy. I like the "telling a joke" interpretation best of all. Beautiful image of these owls ~ Excellent capture.
That is damned funny! I thought the one telling the joke was wearing a tartan plaid in the thumbnail. lol This is a marvelous shot, Jan. I love it. It's a definite keeper!
You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being.

"Whisper in my ear and owl follow you anywhere." I imagine they were gone moments after this photo was taken. Does look like painting. You're really great with contrasts. Very nice Jan.
What a wonderful capture, you did yourself proud with this one! There is a certain softness which totally lends itself to this gentle image. Very well done, Jan.

Just had this in the VB. Blew me away. Couldn't decide whether it was a painting ... a manipulation or a photo. Left immediately to see some more and learn more. Can't tell you how I love this capture. The pose caught, the dark surrounding not to mention the expression on the owl right. LOL Simply marvelous Jan ... and thanks for a favorite.
I think that Cynlee and I are on a brain wavelength here. I thought the same thing about the bird on the left with a tartan plaid on in thumbnail.
A painting? Yes, I think that's exactly what it looks like, as if someone decided to imbue these two with a touch of a humorous look into their secret lives.
Yes, the lighting is perfect, and I hope this does very well in the voting booth cause it certainly deserves it..Into my bird fave file.
"I never looked for it, gave it no name; yet I knew it always, when the gift of peace came. I stood quite still for the moment that it lasted...Then the light shifted slightly and the moment passed, leaving me...with the lasting echo of its presence.." Diana Gabaldon
"I decided that it was not wisdom that enabled [poets] to write their poetry, but a kind of instinct or inspiration, such as you find in seers and prophets who deliver all their sublime messages without knowing in the least what they mean."

Jan, I could visit the whole kingdom of animals through your images...There's something so timeless and classic about it, mystery and beauty. Another fave. :)

Saw this in VB and had to comment. Wonderful job. Amazing composition on this. Very expressive birds. Maybe the photographer's fly was open and the joke is on you. Very well done.
An adorable capture! It looks like one is trying to sneak a kiss. I too, thought the one bird was wearing tarten plaid. The smiling owl makes me smile :), and the frame adds the finishing touch. Thanks for this happy couple Jan!
Oh Jan this is so precious! I am sure they are "sweet talkin" to each other. NOT dirty..no way...they are too lovely to be doing such a thing...heh!! I can hardly believe this is a true photo, even tho evidently it is. Can you tell me a little bit about them? or where they were when you took this? or just anything that would tickle my ears a bit more..hehe..thanx for a most lovely posting..verena
