The Black and White gives the picture an "Anytime" feeling. I know this is now but it could be the 1950s. This gives it a timeless quality, whereas the colour version roots the picture in the present.
Both are great pictures of a structure that is becoming something of a rarity.

I got the pier in the distance but didn't realise you'd gone in this close. I love piers in any case, they're so unmistakably about the British seaside. The slight glow you've given this is lovely and as Randy has said, a keen eye makes for a grand composition!
Reminds me of some shots I saw on the walls of different establishments in Daytona Beach, Florida. Most of them were on the beach where the Daytona 500 was first held. They were also in B/W. Good post Jan.
