I realize this photo is a bit grainy due to the high ISO of 1600. With trial and error, frigid temps. and no tripod. I managed to finaly capture this scene without using a flash. I used a Canon DOS Rebel Xti - w/ EFS 18-55 mm lens, set with A-DEP, ISO 1600. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this shot without the grain I would be estatic to hear about it! Any comments for that matter will do. I thought the comp. and scene was worth an upload. This is an attempt to gain some knowledge from the pros. out here.
Thanks for stopping by. Jay.

To be the first to comment.. I will have to rework this, and brighten it up back at Homebase. This has alot more potential.. Stay tuned.

if you are gonna rework this, clean the noise up using neat image, you can probably get rid of a good proportion of it!! its a nice scene, i look forward to the rework!

Im no pro but im gonna try and help anyway !! Drop the iso down to 200 ish (try 100 aswell ) Set shutter speed for about 8 secs
Set to f22 or higher.... Now for the hard part.... find something to put the camera on I.E a bench or branch BUT please put the neck strap around you just incase... Now set the camera to delay shoot ( 2 secs will do ) press shutter then hands off camera, wait for the click ----------- click.... hopefully your shot will be clean and lovely !!! try it and let us see what you get :)

I think you have been already given some good tips. I too await the re-work. It is a nice scene, to be sure.

I like this all things concidered. The subtle foreground light is especially nice and this is not bad at all for being shot at a 1600 ISO. I don't know what your shutter speed was but apparently you were trying to gather light with the ISO. I have taken night shots with good results with a 4 sec. and less shutter speed and a 400 ISO. Look at my 'Night Lights' I believe that was a 4 sec. shutter and a 400 ISO. A tripod is a must and I did use a remote shutter release on that one.

I like this photo because of the bright warmth of the distant homes. It's like an oasis of comfort in the cold. My eye is also drawn to the shadow cast by the tree from the brightness of the moon. It is a photo of cold and warmth.
