Thank you.. I think I was going for something "creepy". ;)
As ominous as it may seem. This part of the City is actually one of the safest and most sought after for real estate. This street leads into Franklin Square, where lawyers and doctors live in penthouse suites.
I used an effect simular to Orton called "Bloom" where I'm able to adjust the effect. On top of monochrome I used a film filter, "Provia". To give it an older look.
I like this. Its a fine city street night scene and works very well.I feel like I am there.I would like a better look down the street to the left. The man hole cover is excellent up front and sets the scene off so well, but it leads me straight into the street light and windows.A pan to the left would, might, make this and excellent composition.Food for thought. This Image GRABBED my EYE. That's Why I Stopped By.
Thanks For Sharing ! Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience
I like it very much as well. The light rain adds a very nice element to the textures and mood. I just wish my monitor was one of those that could flip for the best view. Wonderful work!
This looks somewhat timeless, within a century or so. I like the way the eye is drawn tot he corner of the building in the distance, and can either wander straight down, or peek towards the side street. Seems to be a slight tilt toward the left. Might wanna take this sober next time ;-)
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
Thanks Rob, I used the pole and building on the right for a refferance, but next time I'll take the shots on my way to the bar, instead of coming from it. :D
I can hear the somewhat sinister echo of footsteps on the wet pavement, but mostly there's the quietness of a corner of the city in the rain with only the sound of distant traffic for company... One thing really caught my eye: The curving lines of the manhole cover set against the linear lines of streets, buildings, lamp posts, that are prevalent in a city...

I heard the echo of footsteps too. In fact the first thing I thought of was that I could just imagine Phillip Marlowe coming around the corner. ;-) I love B&W photography for the mood it can often portray & in this photo it does it wonderfully. Love it.
"There is always something waiting at the end of the road ... if you're not willing to see what it is ... you probably shouldn't be out there in the first place."
Digital Noir at it's best. The Whole image is beautifully soft and the inclusion of the clearly defined textures of street bricks, manhole cover, and broken asphalt is a good contrast to the rest of the shot. It may be New york but, at this time of year, (except for the white signs) it smacks of Dickens. If there was a small child with a homemade crutch leaning against that close lamp post, it would be Dickens.
