...And to think I grew up in the Detroit Area during my adolescent years (1974-1979)...Much different place, back then...

I would NEVER have thought I'd see a day and age where ANY large, sizeable city - goes completely belly up like this!

Sad part is, they're saying there might be a few more to come...:P

I have "passed by" Detroit a few times bound for ports in Lake Erie and Lake Superior. Can't imagine a city like that can go bankrupt. It is also in the news here in Germany.

Excellent work , Ron .
What a shame that a City that was once booming .. known as the Motor City is in such a mess .

Both sides of the isle can be blamed for this ..... on a local level as well as federal . We need strong leadership who is willing to make some tough decisions and us as citizens need to be able to make and accept some tough decision as well . I fear this is just the beginning .

Okay off my soapbox .... way to early ! lol
Going to get my second cup .

And what about tech occupations and trades? For example, I always hear about how mfg. companies complain how there aren't people available to fill precision machining program and set-up positions, yet only a handful of these companies will make any
kind of contributions to local trade or vocational schools in helping to train individuals with the necessary skills it takes to do these jobs efficiently...Mastering a five-axis CNC machining center isn't like mastering the cash register at Walmart or Costco...yet a good number of mfg. companies fail to see that...Or maybe they do, and just use the aforementioned lame skilled tradesman availability excuse to justify sending the work overseas at a fraction of the overall cost...Yes, you need technical occupations, even technical trades, but you have to be willing to pay these individuals a bit more than Walmart or Costco cashier wages, which is all some of these people are receiving for the education and training they've devoted their time to... Asking for a halfway decent living wage in exchange for quite a bit of commitment to an occupation, especially a practical one, in my opinion, does NOT fall under the category of "entitlement"...

There's MY vent on the subject! :P

Obama not coming to Moscow is no great loss for the Russians. Obama will take his ball and stay at home because Putin won't play the game his way.

You heard, of course, that Detroit is getting a new $450 million stadium funded by taxpayers?
