...Speculative Creation & Design (a.k.a. "Spec Work" or "Crowdsourcing") is a contest-like gig in which many designs are submitted by candidates, but only one is chosen as the winner, and that person receives the cash award...It's like having 30 chefs each serving you steak and eggs, but you only have to pay for the best one...Stupid!

...This practice (as well as cheapo outsourcing sites that pay pennies on the dollar rates) is why I got out of Freelance Graphic Design years ago...You wind up getting ripped off, or not paid at all for a submission...The latter often occurs with crowdsourcing, in which the "contests" are abandoned (no "winner" is ever chosen) because the client has already made a decision, and has secretly taken the accepted design to a third party for refinement and preparation (pre-press) for use in web or print...The client has the creation aspect done for absolutely free, and gets away with it!

- Which leads to the pun logo above...I wouldn't be surprised if someday, YOU have to PAY THE CLIENT to use YOUR design!
