This is Hugo the Hippo. (That's what I call him, if it is a him. Who knows?) He lives at the Toledo Zoo in Ohio.

Hugo looks at peace Jim. Would not want to make any waves in that water! Good shot.

Hugo (?) in his 'bath' and a not submerged submarine have in common that most people have no idea about their underwater mass. Surprising and very nice image JimboB.

That's unique, Jimbob, a view from the side. What big eyes he has and Hugo sounds quite appropriate a name for this big guy.

Whether Hugo is a male or female is of little consequence to me Jimbob, & I'm certainly not gonna volunteer to find out. lol

We have Hippos at Bristol zoo too, a shame as their quarters are so cramped. :o(

Haven't they got small ear tufts .. great capture. :o)

I would be careful going to the zoo Jimbob. They might keep a unique species like you. Hugo looks good. He has such big eyes and little ears. Clarity is good. Nice to have a big lens huh?

Wow, this is great JimBob. Almost an abstract, it's a really creative view of this guy. Makes me think of the best type of wildlife photography you see, where the photographer hasn't just presented you with the animal, he's caught something of the 'essence' of it too. I just hope you were somewhere safe. I always find it unbelievable, but apparently more people are killed by these things in Africa each year than by any other animal.

I know what a hippopotamus looks like. Lord knows I've seen enough pictures of them over the years ... but Jim, I gotta tell ya ... tain't seen one any better than this one ( Include National Geographic in the mix). Perfect capture here in lighting and the small portion of head above the water line is very professional. Great job.
