I believe this is a cicada larvae shell. I found it, along with another one, on a tree in my yard. I sure would've liked to catch the little bugger coming out. LOL. Thanks for the comments and views.

I am very much afraid that it might be a large-size tick [purely coincidental etc]. When I remove some insects of this kind from my dog they look quite similar - after having stayed there [on my Boo boo !] for half an hour or so ....
No, probably I am wrong - the ticks have only jaws - that is at least all the I have seen bbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Interesting image Jim. I can't help with identification, sorry. However this picture reminds me of a 1967 film called "Quatermass and the Pit." In this film an alien spacecraft was found buried deep underground and inside were lots of hollow insect-like shells as in your image. So, be careful!!

Oh My Goodness Jimbob, I remeber when I lived in North Carolina I use to go around the pine trees collecting these shells when I was younger. Your capture brought back fun memories and now I'm laughing at how silly it was but fun.

I think this is so COOL and Thanks for bring back fun memories for me. I know you probably think I'm silly and yes I am, lol. I use to even go around and catch snakes.

Nice one, Jimbo. It looks like a cicada larvae shell to me. I got a shot of a dragon checking one out the other day and i found another on the fence today. Great! First the giant hoppers now the dam cicadas. It's a wonder I have any garden at all. It's time for kung fu shoe. Well done.

When it's a cicada, it will disappear in froth to consume your plants Jimbob when it has come out. You may call it a nice insect, I'll call it a 'devil in diguise', lol.
Anyhow a good and detailed capture, my friend.
