One of the locks, that lowered canal boats onto the Maumee River, in Side Cut Metropark, near Toledo. Originally there were six locks, constructed between 1825 and 1847. Three are left in existence. Side Cut Park is so named, because it was a side cut of the Miami & Erie Canal.

Thanks for the comments.

I like all that fall color at the end of the lock...a 'light at the end of the tunnel' effect. And the framing of this is really cool too!

Jim - You have answered the question I asked the other day about the cut limestone walls. It is great that three of the locks are preserved to honor the history of transportation in the early and mid 1800's. Your photo captures the lock well, and the light and shadows give some added interest. Well done (as always). Thad

Photo taken at a good angle and the lock looks good in spite of the mess made by the seagulls. The bright sunlit trees at the end makes it even more interesting.

I am trying to imagine how it looked when in use JimboB. Unless I am missing something, the canal boats must have been pretty small. I like the shadows on the beautifully textured walls. Another hit for the Big Bopper.
