The heron is sure standing tall & proud in that leafless tree. Great colors & detail plus the composition is spot on. Magnificent work, Jim.

Very unusual sight Jimbob. Against the background of the sky the heron is very conspicuous on its pedestal. Nice greenery all around too.

He must have flown off with the first posting. I am glad he brought it back JimboB. "Now, would I accuse you of putting the heron in the treetops?" :)
He must be far sighted or is it near sighted? I bet he has a spyglass under his wing. Another that would make a great photo for a caption contest sometime.

Nicely composed, Jim and that heron has excellent posture. Great greens though out and I like the spots of red grass that break it up just a bit -

Sometimes these herons just get sick of standing on the ground! They like a view once in a while. Great place to see his next meal from. Wonderful image!

I think it is surveying his territory... lol I like it's form against the open scene. I have noticed that some return to the same roosting spots over and over.... preening and watching. Very tolerant of different birds, but when one of their own kind flies in, they usually run them off. lol I like it very much.

Does the heron expect that flying fishes will come passing by, Jimbob? lol.

Both a wonderful and funny image, mate!

Hey, Jimbob...

My favorite shot of the day so far (and I've been through 20 and have another 20 to go). I probably would have titled this "Isolation". The folks above are probably right about him checking out his territory and/or searching for lunch. It's an awfully convenient spot for the fellah inasmuch as there aren't any other spots in the area as good as this one. A wonderful find and very well captured.

I think it's what came out of the other end is responsible for denuding the tree. This fellow must live in gator country to be sitting so high. A nicely composed scene with good lighting and colours.
