About two seconds after I took this shot, the cicada dropped to the ground...dead! The wasp just went on it's merry way.

It probably layed an egg in it,The Cicada wouldn't be dead only paralized,This keeps the meat fresh as the grub chomps it's way merrily through it's innards..Such is life..A great picture Jim,Bokeh and all that..I hope I didn't turn your stomach ;)....R.

Jimbob - Richie's graphic detailing doesn't detract a bit from this fine macro work. Thad

You sure got a good shot of them making dinner plans JimboB. Those Cicada are a bit noisy anyway. Bon appetit.

It must of been amazing to witness this, Jim. I know wasp's can be nasty as I spent an hour trying to swat a few & ended up getting stung by one the other day. On the other hand cicada's are a noisy bunch of insects when the sun goes down especially when I want some peace & quiet. It's was a no win situation for me, I guess. Best I leave nature to take care of their own creatures & try not to intervene. Excellent detail on this capture that tells a story of it's own. Outstanding work.

Amazing close up shot, Jimbob! Can't say I find either insect very appealing. Well, the Samurai wasp gets to fight another day.

Wow, did you nail this one! I agree with Ramad - I thought I had hit the Nat Geo page for a second there. For what it's worth, Jim, I think this is one of your best captures. It's got everything going for it - action, nature, color, clarity - you name it. I also think it's cool that the wasp is doing this while hanging from one leg! Big thumbs up -

Hey, Jimbob...

I saw this in the AC voting before it was on my friends list. You must have some friends in high places for that to happen. I'm not even talking about the moderators. I'm talkin' high places. Well, congrats on your shot. I gave it my thumbs up in the voting, but I'm not even sure that's necessary inasmuch as you're on a direct line with the Almighty. When I first saw this shot I thought, "Lucky SOB." The timing was phenomenal and the chances of even being able to see this happen, let alone get a focused shot off, are a zillion to one. I guess I'd better start going to church with you on Sundays. And if I were you, I'd buy a few lottery tickets.
