Jimbob - A dam fine shot... or, is it a fine dam shot? I like that the stone walled sluice is included in this image. A calm, pleasant view. Well done! Thad
I commented on this shot about 5 hours ago but lost the comment. Since I'm out in the sticks and leave near Morro Road, the main east-west thoroughfare to Morro Bay, we get lots of folks from the flat lands of Fresno and Bakersfield. These folks can sometimes drive for 10 miles without touching their steering wheel. I heard about one couple on Hwy 99 that tied a bungee cord to their steering wheel, jumped in the back seat and conceived their first child near Turlock. So when these folks get on Hwy 41, they tend to enjoy the view and plow into power poles.
I've seen this dam many times but never from this angle. I have to admit that I've always been surprised at the water color. I thought only California had brown rivers of mud. At first I thought you might have a weird reflection from a brown sky, but that didn't make much sense.
Very nice artistry as always in your work. You used to do some dynamite borders, but this doesn't need a border. I have seen postings on Caedes with focus that is so sharp that it hurts my eyes. I have also seen what we politely call "soft" focus but which is darn right blurry. Your work has a happy median. Excellent textures on the stones in the foreground but pleasingly focused trees in the background.
I'm too dam late to be the first to say it's a dam nice shot ;) I'll just mill around here trying to come up with something that hasn't already been said... but I have to agree that it's dam good :)
A well conceived image technically and creatively. I like the way you have the dam flowing off the image. It adds tension to the calm of the smooth water before it overflows the dam.
Some people have Gurus, I have my camera. Through the cam lenses I have learnt to deeply perceive life, not only to see, but to look at all expressions of nature, becoming able to read the poetry of the flowers, receiving the embrace of the trees and flying above the clouds without wings! - Susie Sun
