Was Jimmy too cold to go out and take the pic?....lol....You know I'm kidding darlin! Beautiful reflections and comp Jim! A nice natural look in the water too. Thats a plus for me :-)
In addition to the reflection, it looks like this heron is casting a shadow on the water on the left side of the image as well...3 for the price of one...I'll take it!
You shot this from your balcony using the same telephoto zoom lens that I have?!!! If you were in this room right now, I'd beat you senseless. I am yet to take a decent wildlife shot with my camera, and I've been much closer than a distant balcony. Jimbob, I think you should head over to National Geographic headquarters and get a job. I think you would especially enjoy hiding under a fake bush shooting a pride of hungry lions on the Serengeti.
LOL LOL at Roger's comment which I heartily share !!!! LOL Stunning, amazing, graceful and absolutely unique. Hope this will do for the moment as otherwise I would have to use the synonyms dictionary. LOL Thanks and congratulations !!! I knew you had a great talent dear agent SAJ. Yours SAM
Jimbob - It is quite something to observe them while feeding. The heron will stand motionless for a long time, then crane its neck and turn the head so one eye can focus on the movement in the water and, with a flash, stick its head in the water and, hopefully, come up with the prey. Apparently, you were as motionless, as these birds are so skittish. Well done! Thad
The heron seems to have a smile which adds interest to this portrait. I very much like how you positioned the bird in the horizontal sense. Not as much in the vertical sense because there is more space above the bird's head than there is below its head's reflection. A tad extra space on the bottom, rather than on the top, would make the image look more settled in its center of gravity imho.
From your balcony? Wow, I try so hard to get these at the lake, love the reflection and focus on the Heron. Well done Jim. And thank you for the comment on my "Hawk in flight" photo.
