Tegenaria atrica To this family belongs one of the biggest Western European spiders that can often be found in the house: Common House Spider. There are four species, that resemble one another very much. They can be found indoors regularly and this is the most common one of them. Especially during the night the males often activily search for the females. Females are hardly bigger than males and actually look smaller: the males have a leaner body, but much longer legs. The infamous American Hobo Spider, also known as Biting House Spider (Tegenaria agrestis) is a close relative of the Common Housespider below and it does look similar. The animal is not known to bite people in Europe, but somehow it does bite in the USA. The venom causes open wounds that heal very slowly. Most of the members of the Tegenaria genus however are either unable to penetrate the human skin, or their venom is very weak indeed. Info from: http://www.gardensafari.net/english/house_spiders.htm Photos taken with Konica Minolta Dimage Z5. Maybe not a wallpaper for the "Arachnophobic" Hope you like it and thanks for watching :-)

Great close up of this lil guy! The detail you have achieved in this shot is stunning. Oh and I think one of his cousins bit me and my son. We were both bitten by a spider in my bed a few weeks ago and I still have the last stages of the healing wound on my arm - my boy wasn't as lucky, he got his on the cheek.

I have been asked to comment on your image. The detail of the spider is incredible even though the focus breaks down near its rear extremities. The only thing I could suggest would be to photograph the spider on a neutral surface if possible. IMHO, the arm takes away from the main image. Nothing bad, just a slight tweak. These are only suggestions and are in no way meant to demean your work. It is a beautiful capture. Maurice

An excellent close-up with wonderful detail & clarity. Spider's are actually good to have around, but I especially don't like them crawling on me or biting. Very nicely presented & thanks for the info as well.

super macro shot of astonishing quality considering the fixed zoom lens you have
your composition and cropping work very well and the inclusion of someones arm (i presume) gives great scale and creates that slightly intimidating aspect of the spider about to pounce!

nice one

I can feel the hairs on my arm move just looking at this one. Very brave thing you did there, sometimes we must make sacrifices for art! Nice look at her face.

I like spiders, and this just creeps out all my friends. Keeps a lot of people away from my desktop as well.
